When I started makin' this little Harpoon Clip Point EDC I was shooting for a little belt knife that would be a workhorse. You know, the knife you strap on in the morning and use for your daily cutting needs. Things like opening boxes, removing staples, cutting a length of twine or rope, opening envelopes, or any of the other tasks that many folk use their folding pocket knife for... but, when I got it all finished up and polished out OMG! This little bugger is freakin' gorgeous. I mean, the brushed blade came out as perfect as I have made to date but the Florida Southern Red Oak handle!!! The handle came out WAY better than I anticipated.
This knife is a perfect example of why I love using Florida woods that I harvest myself. The block of wood did not look near as sexy when it was in block form than it does on the final product. I picked the block of wood because I new it would be pretty nice looking but nothing really fancy. When I started to get the handle cut down to the final shape and I saw what it was going to end up like I grabbed it out of the knife vice and took it in to Becky. My darlin' wife agreed that this was going to be a spectacular knife.
This style knife is perfect for every day carry because it will handle pretty much anything from daily cutting requirements to being a pretty darn good camping or hunting knife. The harpoon clip point makes this knife quite stabby and it has a built-in thumb rest for extra control. The finger quillion helps keep the knife under control and in your hand. The blade is slightly over 1/8" thick with a saber flat grind so it has so as much strength as a knife this size can have. The edge geometry was ground to .015" with a final cutting bevel of 30 degrees (15 degrees per side)
